  • Jewellery benchtop

    • The object:

      I needed a jewellery bench. I had recently dismantled some turn of the century stockyards made from a mystery wood. No-one was quite sure what it was. Incredibly hard. Rich browny-red. Looked good for what I wanted.

      After re-sawing and gluing, I chiselled out the weathered wood, creating lots of grooves, which I filled with wood filler I dyed black. To go with them, I decided to create (many many), fake butterfly joints.

    • Materials:

      Mystery 100+ year old wood. Powdered black pigment. Wood putty. Gorilla glue. OrganOil.
